What have you been reading???

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Well, we’re only weeks away from getting ready to go back to school.  What have you been reading?  What have your kids been reading?  The big hits at my house for Abby has been all her Early Reader books – Barbie Horse Show Champ and Littlest Pet Shop Teacher’s Pet.  Justin loves Dig, Dig, Digging because it’s all about trucks and diggers that work all day.  Please comment to this post your summer reading hits!!

I just finished The Lemonade War and Me and the Pumpkin Queen.  Both were on the South Carolina Book Award Children’s Book list from 2009-2010.  I’m a little behind on my reading!!  I am going to start reading some of the books on the Picture Book Award list for 2010-2011.  A complete list of all nominees for 2010-2011 can be found here.  These are great reads if you’re looking for something new or different to read.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!!  Happy Reading!!

Reading Green!

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Over the next few weeks we will be “Reading Green” in the library.  We will be reading books that express the importance of taking care of ourselves and the planet.  Last week we read The Water Hole by Graeme Base.  The students were given a challenge to find a water puddle and observe it.  They are to measure it, watch for animals that may use the puddle for a bath or a drink, and note any changes in the puddle over time.

If any students complete the challenge their projects will be posted here!!  This would be a great family project to do outdoors!!
